Russo's Italian pastry shop - La pasticceria Russo

Located on Route 5 in Enfield, at 739 Enfield Street, this place has great Italian pastries, cookies and cakes. The items are always fresh and the slection is great. They have all kinds of breads and cookies and pastries. They have cannolis (a large variety of cannolis. There must be at least 12 kinds!), loafs of fresh bread (made daily) and pizza and you can buy a cup of cappucino. They have a giant parking so parking is not an issue. Their hours are convenient. And, they always have everything you could want in stock, so stopping by at the last moment is not an issue. They also serve coffee, which is a nice accompaniment to anything you purchase there to eat on the way home. Click on photos to enlarge them.

(Italiano) - Localizzato sulla Route 5 in Enfield, al 739 di Enfield Street, questo posto ha grandiosi pasticcini italiani, biscotti e torte. Tutto e' sempre fresco e la selezione e' grande. La pasticceria Russo ha tutti i tipi di pane e biscotti e pasticcini. Hanno cannoli (un'ampia varieta' di cannoli. Ci devono essere almeno 12 tipi), pagnotte di pane fresco (fatto giornalmente) e pizza e puoi acquistare il cappuccino. Hanno un grande parcheggio cosi' parcheggiare non e' un problema. I loro orari sono comodi. E hanno sempre qualcosa che potresti voler comprare, cosi' fermarsi all'ultimo momento non e' un problema. Thomas G. Alcorn School (1) - La scuola Thomas G. Alcorn (1)

The Thomas G. Alcorn School, at 1010 Enfield Street, was built as a High Schoool in 1925 on land donated by Thomas Alcorn. It was recently restored and enlarged and is now the Thomas Alcorn Elementary School. Thomas Grant Alcorn was born in Enfield in 1867 and died in 1925. Click on photos to enlarge them.

Founding fathers of Enfield - I padri fondatori di Enfield

Established as the township of Enfield, 1683, this area war part of the Springfield Plantation granted to William Pynchon and others by Massachusetts General Court. Springfield was settled in 1636, but no effectual grants were made here until after king Philip's war of 1675-1676.

In 1679 John Pease and his brother Robert of Salem, Massachusetts, visited the land and spent the winter alone in a hut on the hillside of the present Enfield Street Cemetery. The next spring, 1680, they removed their families along with those of their father John Pease Sr. and Elisha Kibbe to Freshwater Plantation. Within three years thrirty more families from Salem and vicinity jointed them. Click on photos to enlarge them.



(Italiano) - Fondata come la cittadina di Enfield nel 1683, quest'area era parte della colonia di Springfield, assegnata a William Pynchon e ad altri assegnatari minori, dalla Corte Generale del Massachusetts. Springfield fu colonizzata nel 1936, ma nessuna asseganzione con efficacia giuridica fu fatta qui fino a dopo la guerra del re Filippo del 1675-1676.

Nel 1979 John Pease e suo fratello Robert della citta' di Salem, Massachusetts, visitarono la regione e trascorsero l'inverno da soli in una capanna sul pendio di colle dell'attuale Cimitero di Enfield Street. La seccessiva primavera, nel 1680, i frattelli Pease trasferirono le loro famiglie insieme con quelle del loro padre, John Pease Senior, e di Elisha Kibbe, verso la piantagione di Freshwater. Pearl Street Library (A Carnegie Building) - La biblioteca di Pearl Street

The library is located at the corner of Franklin and Peral Street, and was dedicated on February 27, 1914 and opened on May 5, 1914. Andrew C. Carnegie donated the funds ($ 20,000) for the building. Enfield townpoeple provided the land. The Lions (Wisdom and Justice) wer donated on January 29, 1998 by Mrs. Lena Tatoian in memory of er husband, Attorney Philip E. Click on photos to enlarge them. Enfield Congregational Church - La chiesa Congregazionalista di Enfield

It's Enfield's tallest building and oldest Church, established in 1680, completed in 1849, it's the oldest church building in use today. It sits approximately on the site of the third Church, now old Town Hall which is located across Enfield Street. Click on photos to enlarge them.

(Italiano) - Questa e' l'edificio piu' alto di Enfield e la piu' vecchia chiesa di Enfield, costruita nel 1680. Completata nel 1849, e' il piu' vecchio palazzo adibito a chiesa in uso oggi. Built by Issac Kibbe in 1775. Third Meeting-House of Congregational Church. Site of Captain Thomas Abbey's drum march announcing the Revolution. Converted into a Town Hall in 1848. National Register of Historic Places in 1974. Restoration completed in 1980. now Enfield Historical Society Museum, at 1294 Enfield Street in the Historic District of the city. Convertito nel palazzo comunale nel 1848. Entrato nel Registro Nazionale dei luoghi storici nel 1974. La sua restaurazione fu completata nel 1980.
